SWIM CAMP
Shangri La Ranch is offering swim lessons for the kids of New River - Desert Hills - Black Canyon City!
During the posted hours EVERYONE MUST be Dressed. We are simply offering out pool and some awesome instructors to teach kids how to swim and be safe in and around the water.
June 9, 10, 11, 16, 17, and 18 (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday) 9am - 1:30 pm are the times everyone is required to remain dressed.
This is geared towards kids ages 2.5/3 - Teens.
There is no cost associated with this program, we just want kids to be safe and comfortable around water to help reduce the risk of childhood drowning
We have been offering this for a number of years to the local community, the kids all love it and have multiple generations utilize this program not just to learn to swim but also feel safe in and around water.
If you have any questions please contact the office.
Anything But Clothes Dance
Our next themed dance is on June 13th at 8pm. Have some fun and dress up for the dance wearing anything but actual clothing think something fun like a table cloth, sheets, a pool floatie, or anything else you can think of that would be fun yet dance appropriate.
Guest DJ
On Saturday June 27th we will have a guest DJ for our dance please welcome and respect DJ J Key as you do our current DJ's.

We all like to consider ourselves as good citizens and members of the community but, when it comes down to the actions for such noble reflections, are we really being responsible stewards? For months, this column has tried to convey ways to work together to avoid “garbageddon” in a poignant, yet humorous, manner. Now we can easily default to saying that it’s the visitors to SHANGRI LA RANCH, if not for the fact that the same habits continue day after day, week after week!
One of the most problematic practices is loose trash thrown into the compactor. The desert is a windy place, and flimsy items like candy wrappers, cigarette butts, and other small scraps fly in the breeze whenever the door is opened and especially when the truck comes to retrieve the rubbish — which, by the way, is Tuesday and Friday mornings. The solution is simple: BAG YOUR TRASH! By placing discarded items in a trash bag will significantly reduce the amount of airborne scraps floating into the retention pond and surrounding bushes; and, since we’re talking about them, TIE YOUR BAGS! That’s what those colourful draw straps are for: to secure the contents from spilling out when tossed into the bin.
Speaking of which, another smart way to help keep our environment clean and healthy is to BAG YOUR STYROFOAM! Those blocks of closed-cell extruded polystyrene break into their individual “bean bag beads” when crushed by the compactor, and we all know where they go — yup, into the surrounding bushes and retention pond. Containing blocks and packing peanuts made of Styrofoam will help keep them from polluting our grounds.
A lot of trash still gets tossed into the recycling bins and that costs SHANGRI LA RANCH real money. The reclamation company will levy a fine anytime non-reusable junk is found in the bins with therecyclables. Conversely, it’s amazing the volume of wasted glass jars, plastic bottles and aluminiumcans being sent to the landfill instead of being salvaged for reprocessing. Separating these items helps not only our compactor overflow problem but also the ecology. Let’s all reduce, reuse and recycle! No one says they want a dirty environment yet, time after time, our civic responsibilities are pushed aside by sheer laziness or lack of concern. These are not difficult guidelines to follow, and the “dos and don’ts” of the recycling company are posted right on the front of the bins — yes, there are two bins at the transfer station. Everybody needs to be a responsible steward for our community; are you one?v
Water

Its that time of year again where we tlak about water.
The water here at the ranch comes from our wells and is treated so that it can be drinkable and usable throught the park. We ask that in order to preserve as much of our water as possible that you make sure that nothing in your unit just runs on such as a dripping faucet or a toilet that has a a small leak. When you leave for an extended period of time turn off your water so that nothing can flood or explode, as well as also turning off any hoses that are set up outside of your place. We have recently found that osme residents go away and leave the outside hose running just a little bit to make sure the plants get watered, do not do this have someone set up to water your plants with the tiny bit of water that your desert drought resistant plants need.
Now on to what needs water most, YOU. Make sure as the tempurature and your time out the pool rises so does your water intake. We all need to drink a little extra water in the summer as the soaring tempuratures deplete your water stores faster. If you are not a fan of plain water there are many flavoring packets or electrolyte solutions available to add to your water to give it a little bit more umph.

Did you know that Arizona has multiple teams that playing in Air Conditioned Stadiums to help sports enthusiasts beat the summer heat.
The Phoenix Mercury play Women's Basketball at Footprint Center in Downtown Phoenix.
The Arizona Diamondbacks play Baseball at Chase field which has a retractable roof so not always indoor but when the temperatures soar the roof is closed and the AC is cold.
If Football is your thing there are indoor teams currently playing, The Arizona Rattlers play at Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale and the Arizona Juggernauts play at Mullet Arena in Tempe. There are two other indoor football teams who play outside of the Phoenix area, The Wranglers who play in Prescott and the Findlay Toyota Center and The Tucson Sugar Skulls that play at the Tucson Arena.
So there are multiple options for and indoor sporting event not only in the Phoenix area but around the state.
